My husband and I flew into SFO from Massachusetts to visit family. I booked a room at the Sonesta Hotel Emeryville as it is the half way point of our travels. We arrived around 10pm ( Tuesday May 12 ) by a very welcoming reception at the front desk. I had requested a “Bay View “ room ( it was a little extra but worth it ) and we were not disappointed. The room itself was very nice. It was clean and the bed extremely comfortable! The bathroom was ok, it could use some updating. There were a few things lacking (room safe and microwave ) but all in all we were pleased. The location is excellent. There are several shopping plazas within walking distance, various restaurants and parks. We chose the Room and Breakfast option and breakfast was great, served with a friendly smile. There were a few things we needed from housekeeping and since we were only here for two nights I didn’t request a full service cleaning so I just told the front desk what was needed. By the time we returned to our room after breakfast, about an hour all requested items were there. Highly recommended and definitely spend the extra for the Bay View room!!

This was an interesting and unexpected 5 star review - the location is great for the business traveler with a few decent restaurants right next to the hotel and a small shopping area that was clean and safe to walk around. The hotel had clean comfortable and updated rooms, the bar/restaurant was very enjoyable - most notably the service from the bartender Annalie was exceptional. She was so friendly and helpful, I am here for work a lot and she greets me by name and my favorite cocktail anytime I show up.

Was checked in late night by Samaje who was an absolute gem and represented Sonesta beautifully. She was knowledgeable and welcoming. I require an ADA accessible room and booked as such and she confirmed, made sure my needs were met and was all around amazing. Thanks so much, Samaje! The wifi wasn't working during our stay which was a bummer as Sonesta members, but you can always count on the chain to be centrally located, clean, and fairly priced.

Terrible service. I called Reservations and had updated my reservation to include my sibling. An hour passes. Front desk tells me reservation isn’t updated on their end and to call Reservations. I call Reservations and they tell me it’s updated on their end. I tell the front desk for them to tell me that it’s not updated on their end and they tell me to call back Reservations. It’s a ridiculous amount of back and forth and my sister isn’t able to check into the hotel. It’s 10pm. I have to book her another hotel. EDIT: It was a two night stay so I came back to the hotel the following day at 12pm to physically check in and add my sister. The front desk tells me that they are fully booked and they had marked me as a no-show. I had called in the night before telling them that we would have to check in the next day given the issues with their system. It seems like their system still had not updated and I had to physically be there to add my sister to the reservation. They told me since they were overbooked that they could not check me in until 4pm. The manager Oscar’s attitude and treatment towards us was unhelpful, rude, and belittling. His treatment towards us during the situation made it clear we should take our business elsewhere.

The stay itself was overall good, and I appreciated the hotel providing complimentary breakfast during our visit. Unfortunately, the interaction at the front desk the following morning left a disappointing final impression. I returned with a simple question regarding the breakfast tickets we were given, as we only needed one additional breakfast for our 7-year-old daughter, and the employee named Oscar was rude, dismissive, and unnecessarily disrespectful in the way he handled the conversation. At one point, he stated that because we were checking out that day, he was “no longer obligated” to help further. What should have been a very minor and simple interaction was unnecessarily turned into a much bigger issue because of the attitude and tone. A more professional and courteous approach would have made all the difference.
