Absolutely do not stay here ! After calling ahead to inform the hotel that we would be checking in late due to a delayed flight, we arrived at nearly 1am only to be told by the night receptionist that the only room left had no functioning AC or heating. Left with no other options at that hour we took the room. The moment we had walked further into the property it reeked heavily of cigarette smoke , weed and trash. The room itself looked absolutely nothing like the advertisements. The hallway leading to our room was blaring with obnoxiously loud music. inside the room we were greeted by a broken dresser that looked like it came from a junkyard , burn marks on the bathroom counter , a completely uncovered and broken thermostat, and a bed that was physically broken and caved in. Additionally., a corner wall had been poorly patched due to water damage and the curtains couldn’t even close. The next morning we attempted to speak with the receptionist Beatrice , To see if we could change rooms , as the night clerk had instructed us to do. She rudely refused and claimed they were entirely booked out which was a blatant lie considering their own website clearly showed seven rooms open available for that night. From the very start of the conversation, Beatriz exhibited a terrible attitude when she finally brought out the manager Mr.Singh , he was equally unhelpful, rudely cutting us off and demanding that we let him speak only to offer no actual resolution. They claimed they would take down my number and call if a room opened up but when we stated we could come back later on to check , Beatriz interrupted aggressively yet again. Rather than dealing with this disgusting customer service and uninhabitable environment, we decided to book another hotel and leave early . When I requested a copy of my signed itinerary and checkout receipt the receptionist flat out denied it , she claimed, and I quote “ The rates are private and you’ll be emailed a copy” She continuously repeated this script and refused to hand over my paper work despite it bearing my signature. Under California Business and Professions Code Section 17200, A hotels intentional refusal to provide a consumer with documentation of their checkout time is an unfair and fraudulent business act. On a Final ironic Note , On the Jack London Website it states that no smoking is allowed on the property which is hilarious considering the fact that the entire property smelt of one big smokehouse and was deeply unhygienic, Stay Away!!!!

One star motel. One star stay. This is the cheapest motel in Oakland and you definitely know once you check in. I don’t know what I was expecting for the cheapest place in Oakland but whatever it was. I didn’t get it. For twelve hours music was blasting four doors down. (Must’ve been one of those $400 jbls) I mean we were invited so that was cool but we preferred to have our stay in a more controlled environment. (We bought ear plugs.) The train is feet from your room and goes by allllll night. Blaring its horn there is no silence at this hotel. Cockroaches in the bathroom but no bedbugs so there’s that. Also where’s the outlets? But really guys, just be careful staying here. We made it through the night and slept fine but that’s probably because we can make anything work. Just don’t be surprised if you can’t. This motel makes you feel better about your life. :)

⭐️⭐️⭐️ (2/5… only because we survived) Jack London Inn – Where your immune system goes to boot camp If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to vacation inside a crime scene mixed with a biology experiment, congratulations—Jack London Inn delivers that experience with unsettling consistency. Let’s start with the highlights (if you can call them that): 🪳 Cockroaches: Not just guests—tenants. These weren’t shy either. They moved around like they had a lease and we were the intruders. At one point I swear one paused, looked at me, and silently judged my life choices. 🚪 Elevator Experience: Nothing quite prepares you for stepping into an elevator that smells like someone lost a long, hard battle with hydration. Yes—urine. Not a hint. Not a suggestion. A full, immersive olfactory experience. Honestly, I held my breath so long I considered it cardio. 🧼 Cleanliness (or lack thereof): “Filth everywhere” somehow feels too polite. Floors looked like they’d been cleaned once… during the Clinton administration. Sticky spots, mystery stains, and a general vibe that said, “We gave up, and you should too.” 🪵 The Floors: Shifting, broken, uneven—walking across them felt like playing a real-life version of Jenga. Step wrong and you might unlock a new level. Bonus points for the parts that looked like they’d been through several emotional breakdowns. 🧽 Overall Ambiance: Imagine combining: * A forgotten gas station bathroom * A haunted house * And a low-budget survival show That’s the aesthetic. ⸻ Pros: * You will deeply appreciate your home when you leave * Builds character (and possibly antibodies) * Great place if you’re trying to scare off uninvited guests Cons: * Everything else ⸻ Final Thoughts: We stayed 3 days, which is approximately 2 days longer than any reasonable person should. If you’re into extreme experiences, questionable hygiene, and sharing space with wildlife that pays no rent—this is your ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (2/5… only because we survived) Jack London Inn – Where your immune system goes to boot camp If you’ve ever wondered what it would feel like to vacation inside a crime scene mixed with a biology experiment, congratulations—Jack London Inn delivers that experience with unsettling consistency. The hotel isn’t that bad. You get what you pay for, which is good enough in my opinion. The breakfast is a bit basic and could use some improvement. The rooms have a slight smell, and the microwave does too, but you get used to it after a while. The walls are thin, so you can hear other people’s TVs and noise from nearby rooms, which isn’t ideal, especially for kids. I stayed here for 7 days without any major issues, except on the last day when the people next door had a party and made a mess in the hallway, which was annoying. Overall, it’s not a bad hotel. The location is nice since it’s close to Alameda. Just be aware that it might not be the most family-friendly environment.

Room layout was odd. Uncomfortable mattress; no topper, thin bedding, 3 small pillows for a king. Thin & scratchy towels. Room booked for 2 ppl, provided enough towels for 1. Had to go downstairs to get the additional towels. Phone had dial tone but didn't dial. Parking seemingly allowed loitering; we felt we had to check on vehicle 3 times/1 night. Hallway was very noisy; like convention type noise. Went home exhausted. Bathroom was clean. Room offered fridge, microwave, coffee maker and box fan (⬅️a first for me), central heat/air and TV (32-43 inch screen?). Light breakfast offered: coffee, OJ, cereal, toast and (?microwave? ) pancakes. I could forgive the many many trains. My view was of blue tarp woven thru metal fence. I didn't personally interact with staff but sensed that they were as helpful as they were able.
