Bart Pola 4 months agoI’m pretty disappointed with our stay here. I specifically booked this hotel through the Chase Edit program because of the extra perks, but in the end I didn't receive any. I know the room upgrade is "subject to availability" and I did not receive one...but I’d even reached out to the concierge before our trip to ask for an upper floor. Instead, they put us on the absolute lowest guest floor possible. Also, the welcome amenity that was promised? Never showed up. The biggest issue was the $100 hotel credit and the breakfast benefit. The front desk flat out refused to honor them because I didn't have the physical Chase credit card on me...only my virtual one (tap to pay) on my phone. Look, I have a lot of cards and I don't carry every single piece of plastic when I travel. I’ve never had an issue like this at other Chase hotels before. It was very frustrating because I even got the Chase concierge on the phone to talk to the manager and confirm my card and it being active, they still wouldn't budge. It felt like they were just looking for excuses not to give us what we paid for. The only saving grace was the cleaning service. The staff were so nice and did a superb job keeping the room in great shape, but the management side of things was a total mess. Won't be staying here again.
Marcos Miranda a month agoOther than the lobby, there is absolutely nothing luxurious about this hotel. I’ve stayed at Residence Inn hotels that are far superior. Room: the moment you step into the small and old elevators, you should know what’s to come. I stayed at one of their premium suites. What you get are old, stained carpets, a view to endless graffiti in the city, and an oddly narrow and small shower. Decent bedroom size with a living room, but everything is old and dated. Endless Noise: The US Grant is situated right near the Civic Center Amtrak Station and the Broadway & 3rd Ave trolley paths. Every time a trolley approaches a street crossing, loud electronic bells and crossing gate alarms trigger. Because the trolleys run frequently (every 15 minutes or so during the day) and apparently trains through the night, this creates a repetitive, "alarm-like" siren that literally keeps you up all night, and are impossible to ignore throughout the day as well. Atmosphere and location: a brief stroll around town will get you infinite homeless individuals on nearly every street corner as you stumble into iconic places like The House Of Blues, infinite amount of clubs and good restaurants, the original Ghirardelli chocolate ice cream (not to be missed), The Laugh Factory, Mad House Comedy Club, and several other stand up comedy clubs and interesting places if you’re into the night life. Final thoughts: no pool, $70/day for parking plus endless tips, great hotel service and clean rooms with a beautiful lobby but considering the insufferable 24-hour noise, the sub-par (premium) rooms, and horribly disappointing views, I strongly recommend taking a 15-minute drive to Coronado and staying at Hotel Del Coronado by Hilton, or a distant second choice, the Marriott in Coronado. You’re better off driving downtown for dinner at Mister A’s (also highly recommended), than staying here, unless you’re performing at the Laugh Factory, need to catch a train somewhere the next morning, or feel like you’re in Manhattan. My wife and I will never return.
Xiani W 5 months agoBeautiful hotel in the heart of San Diego! We enjoyed our staycation here, a great value for the price. Enjoyed the live music in the lobby and the staff service was truly exceptional, from the check in staff to the in room dining staff, everyone was very professional, friendly and attentive to our needs. The room was clean and the products provided were of good quality. My husband forgot his coat in the room and it was absolutely no problem getting it back after check out. We absolutely plan to come back. My only suggestion would be to improve the vegan friendly options for in-room dining to more than just fruit.
JT 4 months agoMy experience at the U.S. Grant Hotel was unfortunately not pleasant. My husband and I stayed there with our 12-month-old baby to celebrate his first birthday, and the experience started poorly. When we first checked into our room, the heater was not working properly. The room temperature was stuck at 69 degrees and would not warm up. Maintenance had to check it, and we later learned the airflow was very low. A representative called us and apologized, saying they would move us to another room and that we would be upgraded to a larger one. However, when we moved into the new room, it was clearly much smaller than the original room we had. There was barely any space for our baby to crawl. We went downstairs to speak with the front desk about the issue. Unfortunately, the receptionist (her name started with “M”, possibly Maybella or Maribella) was extremely rude. When we explained that the room was smaller than the one we originally had, she insisted that the square footage was the same, which was clearly not the case. She also repeatedly mentioned that we were staying under the Explorer Rate, implying that this affected our accommodations. Regardless of the rate, guests should be treated respectfully and fairly. When we tried to explain the situation, she even suggested we could cancel the room if we wanted to. This was shocking to hear, especially considering we were traveling with a one-year-old baby. There was absolutely no empathy or effort to help, which made the situation extremely frustrating and unpleasant. Thankfully, after speaking with a manager, we were eventually moved to a room that was similar to the one we originally booked, and the heater worked properly. The hotel itself is beautiful, but the poor customer service we experienced, particularly the interaction with the front desk staff, left a very negative impression. Because of this experience, I would not recommend staying at this hotel to friends or family.
Yuki Rosene 2 months agoIt was an absolutely amazing experience. From the friendly staff to the impeccable cleanliness, the entire stay felt truly luxurious. Though I had read some reviews complaining about noisy bathrooms or A/C units, we personally had no issues at all. The bar was a highlight—the bartender was incredibly knowledgeable, and we had a wonderful time. While we didn't have dinner on-site, breakfast was fantastic with excellent service and very tasty food.
