Grace Osagie 2 months agoI stayed here for about five nights for vacation. The Westgate hotel was absolutely marvelous. I have never stayed in a hotel this luxurious ever before, and I was personally blowing out of the water as someone who usually stays at three star hotels. The interior of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous. I could not stop staring at it every time I walked in. The staff were so kind and welcoming. I’m pretty sure I asked them 100 questions during my stay and they answered every single one with kindness and Grace. I never went without anything. The only thing I regret is not spending more time in their fitness and wellness center because it was gorgeous the pool and Jacuzzi were incredible in the rooftop area was so nice and relaxing. The rooms were very spacious and the hotel staff did an incredible job cleaning my room every day despite how messy I know I made it, but they clearly Noted every detail and were so thoughtful in the ways that they cared for my stay. The location as well was perfect. I could walk to many major areas without any issue and even when I didn’t need an Uber the price of an Uber was pretty cheap given the location that this hotel is located in being so centrally located. I only had to rent a car for two days so I could go to the beaches but otherwise felt like I could easily walk anywhere and I felt very safe walking. There are seen amount of homeless people on the side of the hotel near the railway tracks, but I’ve never had any issue with them and again felt very safe walking. I loved my San Diego trip so I will absolutely be coming back to San Diego and I definitely plan to stay at the Westgate hotel the next time I come.
Lauren Hanna Holding 2 months agoWe had an amazing time staying here. The rooms are beautiful and the architecture and design throughout the hotel make you feel like you’ve been transported to Europe. Excellent service and some of the best amenities I have ever experienced at a hotel. Aquavie was AMAZING. There is a full gym, lap pool, hot tub, sauna, showers, spa, cold plunge, and so much more. They teach classes every day and they are all included for hotel guests! We did the spin class which was awesome. Can’t wait to come back!
Bridget Kennedy 2 months agoThis hotel surpassed all my expectations. It is elegance at its finest! Absolutely beautiful hotel, with luxurious and spacious guest rooms that offer amazing city views, super comfortable beds, soft carpeting, gorgeous marble bathrooms, and upscale furnishings. The hotel lobby and dining/lounge areas are graced with beautiful and tasteful European decor, paintings and antiques -- all breathtaking. The pool located on the 3rd floor is beautiful, with a staffed bar, and pool loungers that are the most comfortable of any I've experienced in all my travels. Hotel staff are exceptional in the service they provide to make you feel appreciated for being a guest there. I would like to especially acknowledge and express my appreciation to Alejandro, manager, and Keana (spelling?), as well as Mariana -- all who were amazing in their ability to provide exceptional, attentive, and praiseworthy customer service, and made my stay at The Westgate a most memorable and enjoyable one. Both the restaurant and lounge offer delicious cuisine (Paige in the Lounge was so friendly and wonderful to chat with!), and you will not be disappointed by the menu at either dining venue. I cannot wait to return to this hotel; it is truly one of the classiest and finest I've ever had the pleasure of being a guest, yet also very comfortable and inviting. High marks all around, a truly sensational luxury hotel.
Paige Leighton a month agoWanted to love this hotel because the pool was genuinely wonderful, but overall the stay felt very overpriced for what we received. The positives: the pool area itself was beautiful and relaxing. The downsides: the rooms felt dated and smelled musty, and the hotel location felt uncomfortable at times. While I understand hotels can’t control the surrounding area, walking out to dinner and seeing people near the entrance screaming and physically fighting was pretty jarring. Service was also disappointing. We ordered lunch at the pool and waited over an hour for a Caesar salad, only to be brought the wrong order (a Cobb salad). We still paid for it despite the long wait and mistake. Housekeeping was another letdown — after the room was serviced, a full trash bag was left sitting on the toilet in the bathroom, linens weren’t re-folded, and items like the shower cap/vanity kit weren’t restocked. Small things, but for the price point, those details matter. Overall, this stay felt expensive for what was delivered. A few improvements in housekeeping, service, and room upkeep would go a long way.
Paul Michael Cooper a month agoAs a wedding photographer, the Westgate Hotel is one of my favorite venues in all of San Diego. I've photographed there multiple times, and it never gets old. The architecture alone sets it apart. The French-inspired design throughout the hotel gives every corner a sense of grandeur that you just don't find at most venues. There's no shortage of stunning backdrops to work with: the Versailles Ballroom with its Baccarat crystal chandeliers, the grand lobby staircase with its ornate wrought iron railings, the antique-filled sitting rooms, and more. As a photographer, that variety matters a lot. The getting-ready suites for both the bride and groom are spacious and well-lit with beautiful window light. No cramped, cluttered, or dark corners to work around. The rooms are photogenic on their own. For couples who want that downtown San Diego energy, the rooftop Fountain Terrace is a fantastic option for ceremonies or cocktail hour, with the city skyline as your backdrop. The Versailles Ballroom doubles beautifully as a ceremony space for those who prefer to stay indoors and really lean into the hotel's architecture. Both work incredibly well photographically. The staff has always been helpful and accommodating every time I've been there. You can feel that the whole team takes the experience seriously. If you're planning a wedding in San Diego and want a venue that photographs beautifully from morning prep through the last dance, the Westgate is hard to beat. — Paul from PMC Photography
