Timothy Gibson a year ago$125 a night while others in the area were much higher due to a conference. Staff were excellent, though obviously frustrated with irate customers. Why irate customers? 20 story hotel with only one working elevator which by reading reviews (should have looked before booking) has been down for several months, it was installed in 1969. Room was recently remodeled, though poorly done, witha beautiful view and the smell of wet, musty, and stale air. On top of that the television stopped working on the second day. Not a deal breaker, I didn't rent a room to watch TV, but I do use background noise to sleep and the cable has been out for two days. Calls to the front desk gave vague but optimistic statements that it would be back up soon but was down for three straight days making me believe someone no longer offers the cable TV in their hotel. Parking garage is a separate bill, have to use an app which makes my receipt submission harder for work. The garage itself is expensive for a publicly accessible space and large amounts of chipping and missing concrete. Very old and made me think of the collapsing hotels in Miami as I walked through. All said we will not book again for next year's conference.
Allison R. a year agoI'm going to be completely honest. Me and some friends online booked this hotel without checking reviews because we needed somewhere to stay for Animate! Raleigh. We went into it skeptical and prepared for the worst after reading them. But we had a great experience. Our hotel room was clean and comforting. The building does need a bit of an upgrade, sure. The wallpaper is peeling and the decor is a bit old. It's clear there are some shabby r repair jobs and our shower didn't drain properly. The elevator rattling made me nervous at times as well. But we had a very pleasant experience. Only one elevator works, but the one that does work is extremely quick (reaching floor 12 to lobby within 6-8 seconds with no stops). No odor in the lobby. A nice grab-and-go breakfast of fruit, muffins, danishes, and cereal. They have a small snack area you can charge to your room. No maintenance issues. No roaches or bed bugs. Very nice staff. Honestly the pros heavily outweigh the cons for the price we booked at 70$ a night. Parking isn't free however. But it didn't effect me since I don't drive. I recommend this place if you need something close to downtown for a cheap rate!
Jeremy Mansfield a year agoOf two elevators, only one sort of worked. It sounded like a freight train going up and down all night. Given that it’s in the center of the hotel with the rooms surrounding it, you can’t relocate to another room. Barely slept. The rooms and hotel are very old and not kept up well. Bathroom was very small. Their “breakfast” was a small bar area next to the check in area that only had minimal breakfast carbs. If you are looking for meat or to eat healthy, this is not the place for you. Their restaurant was closed as well. Probably a good thing. Their health rating was only a 90. The staff was not friendly at all and never even asked me why I was abruptly checking out in less than 12 hours of an overnight stay that was supposed to be a week. I do not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a good nights sleep or moderately nice accommodations.
Caleb Muscavage a year agoI don't write a lot of reviews, but this one is warranted. The hotel is older which is fine. The bed was clean and comfortable, but the walls and bathtub show old stains. The room was fine for the price, but here's why it's a 2/5. The front desk staff was terrible. We felt like we committed a felony just because we were checking in. Zero manners from any of the employees on the lobby floor. It's bad when the cleaning lady is the nicest person you encounter. I apologized to the am front desk lady for asking for a spoon (because they ran out of plastic ware and coffee). She ignored me and just dropped spoons in the tray. There was a box of cheerios and a few pieces of bread for breakfast. 2 elevators total for 18 floors. One was broken so be prepared to take the stairs or wait. Location is great. Service terrible. Rooms ehh. 2/5.
C Carter a year agoI stayed here for an overnight trip with my sister. When we checked into our room we found standing water on the bathroom floor. We went back to the front desk and were told that was the only room like we booked available. They offered to have someone take a look, so not thinking anything of it we went adventuring downtown. When we returned our room key did not work. After another trip to the front desk we learned somebody was supposed to tell us we would be changing rooms, but I had no missed calls. We then had to have our original room unlocked to retrieve our things. The view we had in both rooms was very nice and we really enjoyed being in the center of downtown, but were really disappointed in how the room situation was handled. Originally being told there was nothing else available -- my sister and I would have been open to different accomodations that didn't involve standing water but nothing was even offered -- and then returning to discover we'd been moved without being informed left something to be desired.
