Asad Abas 3 weeks agoI recently stayed at Thompson Houston by Hyatt and found it to be a hotel with many strengths but also several practical shortcomings. The public spaces are excellent. The lobby, restaurants, pool area, and views are beautiful, and the overall atmosphere feels luxurious. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable throughout my stay. I also appreciated the sustainability efforts, reusable water bottles, water refill station, smartphone charging kit, and other thoughtful amenities. The bathroom was one of the highlights. The shower design and drainage system are outstanding. However, the mirror lighting was not ideal for shaving, there was no magnifying mirror, towel placement was inconvenient, and I found the toilet seat surprisingly uncomfortable. The room itself looks attractive but often prioritizes style over functionality. The desk is essentially a table with no drawers, the minibar refrigerator is so small that there is almost no room for personal items such as medications, there is no luggage rack, and there was no microwave. An iron and ironing board had to be requested, and the room layout made ironing awkward because of the outlet locations. The bed was acceptable but not exceptional. The pillows were comfortable, but the bedding arrangement made sleeping less comfortable than expected for a hotel in this category. One frustration was the lack of clarity regarding charges for snacks, drinks, electrolyte mixes, and other room amenities. Guests should not have to guess what is complimentary and what is chargeable. Interestingly, the robe was the only item with clearly stated pricing ($150 if taken home). Service was generally courteous, although communication with some staff members was difficult. The gym was adequate, but the staff member present during one visit was not welcoming or engaging. Breakfast was inconsistent. On the first day, the toast and French toast arrived burnt, and our request for warm water was not handled well. On the second day, Jennifer, the hostess, was excellent. She ensured our requests were accommodated, and the breakfast experience improved significantly. I also experienced an overcharge on my room service bill. To the hotel's credit, the charge was corrected and refunded promptly after I raised the issue, but such errors should not occur in the first place. Overall, Thompson Houston excels in ambiance, public spaces, views, the pool, and bathroom design. However, room functionality, attention to detail, communication, and consistency of execution need improvement. A very good hotel, but not quite the exceptional luxury experience I expected.
Waleed Nairab a month agoI booked a two-night stay at the Thompson Houston specifically to relax and enjoy a luxury pool experience with an important VIP client, and it ended up being one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had. When we first arrived, the hotel itself seemed welcoming, but the entire experience completely fell apart once we got to the pool area. The pool was overcrowded with kids jumping, screaming, splashing guests nonstop, and there was absolutely no sense of a relaxing luxury atmosphere whatsoever. It felt more like a public waterpark than a high-end hotel pool. To make matters worse, there were no available seats anywhere. After waiting around awkwardly, staff placed us in the worst possible spot — shoved into a corner directly next to the bathroom entrance — and told us it was “the best seat available.” Meanwhile, multiple cabanas sat completely empty for hours, yet we were repeatedly told they were “fully reserved all day.” The most frustrating part was the response from management. After we complained to the front desk manager about the situation and the lack of accommodations for paying hotel guests, instead of actually resolving the issue, we were suddenly offered a “discount” on a cabana — despite previously being told every cabana was supposedly booked for the entire day. So which was it? Reserved or available? The whole experience felt disorganized, misleading, and incredibly disrespectful, especially considering I brought a VIP client expecting a luxury experience. For the price this hotel charges, the service and pool management were unacceptable. There was zero effort to accommodate guests, no accountability from management, and absolutely no concern for the experience we paid for. I will not be returning, and I would strongly recommend anyone looking for a peaceful luxury stay in Houston look elsewhere.
Cybele Woon a month agoWe splurged and booked a special staycation for our anniversary. While our check in got off to a rough start, management did more than make up for it through the weekend. The suite was amazing, customer service and staff were fantastic. Gerardo, one of the managers, remembered our names during our stay and was a cheerful representative. Ba waited on us at Sol7 and gave great service. We had a daybed at the pool and Julio the supervisor was around and involved all day. Our server was Darius and we had the best service we have ever had renting a poolside amenity. So many times the server rarely comes by or drinks are slow at pools but we were checked on every 15-20 minutes and drinks and food came quickly. All the food we had during our stay at the hotel was great. Thank you to the Thompson staff and management for a memorable anniversary weekend!
terra thompson a month agoOur stay at the Thompson Houston was exactly what we were looking for, and Yolanda made such a huge impact on that experience. From the moment we checked in, she was kind, professional, welcoming, and made the entire process completely seamless. We truly need more people like her in this industry. Some people treat hospitality like it’s just another job, and it can completely change the experience for guests — but not Yolanda. She genuinely made us feel taken care of and set the tone for an amazing stay. The pool area was immaculate, the service throughout the hotel was excellent, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and accommodating. Overall, such a great experience and we will definitely be back.
Zain Haq 4 months agoI'd say this is my favorite Thompson Hotel that I've visited so far. Great location right on the river and not far from downtown. The rooms were classy and service was great. Shout out to Parker, who helped us with the complementary e-bikes. He was extremely helpful and mitigated any issues efficiently. I also checked out the 'House Car' service. They dropped me off at Shell Energy Stadium with no fuss. The only caveat with that is that you can't book in advance and they can't pick you up. The front desk was very accommodating, they helped us get breakfast items for an early suhoor breakfast due to Ramadan. We did have to wait a few hours for the room to be ready but nonetheless the service was amazing. I wasn't able to try the restaurant (besides what pastries we had gotten for breakfast) so I can't comment on that yet. However, I did try the coffee shop, Maven, and it was great. They have a 10% discount for hotel guests and I got the Pandan Matcha Latte for 5 dollars. It was a little sweet for my liking but it was still pretty good. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to enhance their vacation in Houston.
